Pairing Suggestions
Merum Priorati – Desti 2015 (90 TSW)
Blend of 70% Garnacha, 15% Samsó (Carignan) and 15% Syrah.
Give this one a decanter. I used the Vspin.
The estate is made up of three vineyard plots which cover a total of 103 hectares (255 acres). The total planted area under vine however, is less than a quarter of this. The winery is a newly built space of 2,500 m2, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and designed based on sustainable environmental criteria.
They make their wines with grapes grown on the estate, all located in the village of Porrera. The unique characteristics of the soils of this village, lead to the making of some great and exceptional wines, whose fame is recognised around the world.
Merum Priorati’s essence, values and mission are reflected in its brand identity. In Latin, the name means “purity from the Priorat,” and for them it epitomizes “wine from the Priorat in its purest state.” The geometric shapes in the logo are two ancient images symbolizing the sky and the earth.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark red color with purple rim.
On the medium+ nose aromas of dark cherries, cassis and licorice with hints of vanilla, coffee and spices.
On the palate dry, full-bodied with medium+ tannins and medium acidity showing flavours of dark plums, cherries and cassis with spices. The final is long and persistent. Give this baby some years and it will develop nicely.
