Mastrojanni - Rosso di Montalcino 2013 (88 TSW)
My tasting notes:
In the glass a garnet red color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of brambles and dark cherries with hints of leather, liquorice, earth, coffee and anise.
On the palate dry, soft and warm in the mouth with medium tannins and medium+ acidity. Very well balanced and a recall of the nose. Medium+ finnish. Could keep for some years.
Mastrojanni: a historic estate located in Montalcino where the vineyards have a very special terroir. Mastrojanni has been writing history since 1975 with his many awards all over the world for his wines. Mastrojanni is currently one of the most respected producers of the Brunello di Montalcino.
In 1975 the Roman lawyer, Gabriele Mastrojanni de San Pio and Loreto, bought estates in Montalcino. At that time, this area was untouched nature, poor land with many sheep. After buying these estates he started with the vineyards here. He started planting these grounds in the valley of the castles. Today these are the vineyards of Mastrojanni, situated at an altitude between 180 and 440 meters. Mastrojanni wanted to make beautiful Brunello wines, so he planted the grounds with Sangiovese Grosso vines. He used a plant density of 5,700 plants per hectare. from the first years a very high quality of the grapes and the wines was realized.
