Mas Rodó - Montonega 2017 (88 TSW)
Mas Rodó is a pioneer in working with the Montonega variety, an autochthonous grape that develops spontaneously from Parellada strains, generating a distinct phenotype with character. The Montonega is a small, scarcely planted and reddish grape that spontaneously produces around 4500kg per hectare, and with which they produce a frank, fresh and unique wine.
Mas Rodó is a family winery which began in 2005, went into production in 2008, and finally launched on the market in 2010. It’s a family project with a long-term plan, and with the aim of producing distinctive wines of quality within the D.O. Penedés. The terroir and their meticulous care of the vineyard and the wine are the hallmarks that allow them to shape wines with our personal style.
Their wines are designed to reflect the unique character of Mediona, the interior mountain area of the Penedés region (Barcelona). They are located between mountains, at an elevation of 500 metres.
About the wine:
Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature and aging for 12 months in bottle.
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color with greenisch reflections.
On the medium+ nose aromas of pear, limepeel and grapefruit with hints of fennel, yeast and chamomile.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with nice fresh acidity. Round mouthfeel with nice balance and flavours of ripe pear, melon and herbs. Medium finish. An unique wine which is nice to give a try.
The Montonega pairs with all kinds of seafood (especially oysters) and fresh fish, sushi and sashimi, rice dishes, soups and smoked foods, and is also ideal for cocktail receptions, aperitifs and accompanying snacks.
