Mas Doix - Murmuri 2019 (88 TSW)
About 2.700 bottles made of this refreshing Priorat white wine. Thanks to @andrewinereviews for dropping me a bottle.
Murmuri is the first white wine from Mas Doix, a combination of white grapes dominated by the white Grenache of old vineyards and dotted with Macabeo and some other minority variety in the vineyard. The label is from a print created by Josep Subirats in 1985.
Vineyards are situated at a height of 500-600 meters above sea level on hillsides of pronounced slopes, with the characteristic slate soil called "licorella". The grapes come from vines between 20-25 years old, with a small but exceptional average production of 500 gr. per vine.
2019 vintage will be remembered for the heat wave at the end of June, with temperatures of up to 43ºC which mainly affected the carignane.
A hot summer, but with rain that cooled the vines and grapes. Late August arrived with grapes in optimum conditions: healthy, concentrated and very well balanced. Great quality with slightly lower yields.
The wine rested with its fine lees for three months, but was not aged in any wood.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color.
On the medium nose aromas of yellow apple, stonefruit and melon with hints of citrus, white flowers and herbs.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with light creaminess, vibrant acidity and nice freshness. Not a blockbuster but an easy going white Priorat. Very nice minerality and a recall of the nose. Medium length finish.
