Marziano Abonna - Cerviano Barolo 2010 (92 TSW)
Great to taste this beautiful Barolo. King of the wines as a teaser of our Piemonte trip May 2020.
First decanted the wine with the Vspin.
In the glass a deep brick red color.
On the medium++ nose aromas of ripe prunes and dark cherries with hints of earth, dark chocolate, spices and coffee.
On the palate dry, full-bodied with medium+ acidity and well integrated tannins. Great and long finish. This one could age for more years but is very nice drinkable right now.
Marziano Abbona was only 14 when his father died and he suddenly became in charge of the winery of the same name. He grew into a very enthusiastic winemaker.
With the help of Giuseppe Caviola and his daughter Chiara, they make very high quality wines in Piedmont. The annual total production is only 240,000 bottles and the total vineyard possession is 42 hectares.
The vineyards spread over all kinds of sub-zones in the Langhe region with mainly Barbera and Nebbiolo grapes. The soil consists mainly of limestone and clay. The beautiful hills and views also make this area an excellent excursion.
