Le Mortelle - Botrosecco 2015 (89 tsomw points)
A very nice wine with an excellent PQR!! Blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The name 'Botrosecco' refers to an old, now dried up, moat on the estate.
Le Mortelle was purchased in 1999 by the Antinori family with the ambition to make beautiful and surprising wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese.
In the wines of Le Mortelle you will find a spicy aroma from the typical Tuscan Mortella, a bush with wild blackcurrant that you encounter everywhere along the coast. This shrub was the inspiration for the name of the house and you can also find it in the Le Mortelle logo.
Le Mortelle has 270 hectares of which 165 hectares are planted with mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, but recently there are also many new arrivals such as Vermentino, Ansonica and Viognier.
Tasting notes:
In the glass a ruby red color with garnet reflections.
On the nose intense aromas of prunes, sour cherries, blackberries and cinnamon with hints of fresh herbs, vanilla and light leather tones.
On the palate dry, soft and round in the mouth with nice freshness and acidity showing flavours of black currants, strawberries and coffee with a long and soft finish.
