Le Macchiole - Messorio 1999 (94 TSW)
During our Sangiovese evening we tasted beautiful wines. But when we were out of wine to join the food two guys went into the cellar to complete the red selection of wines. Yes. It's not Sangiovese but it's a damned good wine!! 100% Merlot from the Bolgheri area.
Traditional winemaking in steel tanks and concrete vats for 18 days. Aging for 16 months on oak barriques.
My notes and picture aren't the best but it gives some info about this beautiful wine with great aging potential.
In the glass a dark ruby red color.
On the medium+ nose delicate aromas of dark berries, mint, liquorice and spices.
Still full-bodied with a wonderful mouthfeel, concentrated with plums, toast, spices and earthy hints. Cudos @le_macchiole

Messorio, first produced in 1994, Messorio was a personal challenge with one of the most planted varieties in Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast, and in the world: Merlot. From the start, the idea was to transform the best bunches into an impactful wine with a lot of personality, staying as far away as possible from the more soft, predictable style that is often associated with Merlot and instead making a thoroughbred eager to win the race. The name "messorio" refers to the wheat harvest, one of the most fundamental parts of the agricultural cycle.
