Sauvignon Kofl 2016

Kurtatsch - Sauvignon Kofl 2016

Crisp white
Italy - Alto Adige

Kurtatsch - Sauvignon Kofl 2016 (87 tsomw points)

I paired this Sauvignon from Alto Adige with these mussels. It was a great food and wine pairing.

Kurtatsch Winery is one of Alto Adige's oldest and smallest cooperative wineries, and one of the best wine producers in the region. Its vineyard sites are unique in Alto Adige, with a wide array of soil types and elevations ranging from 220 to 900 meters. All of this dictates the philosophy of the province’s southern most cooperative: to produce distinctive wines that reflect their growing site, their terroir, in the best way possible.

The Kofl Sauvingnon combines grapes from the steepest vineyards, which have chalky, pebbly soil are situated at 450 to 600 meters. The name Kofl means “mountaintop” in the Alps. The precipitous, rugged, chalky alluvial soils here have excellent drainage. Rockfalls and streams have brought a variety of primary and sedimentary rock, rich in minerals, into the soil. The nightly katabatic winds provide a continual, natural cooling of the Sauvignon grapes, making this exposed site particularly suitable.

My tasting notes:

In the glasss a bright yellow color with greenish reflections.
On the nose intense aromas of gooseberry, tropical fruits with nice integration of fine herbs, pear and vegetable hints.
On the palate medium+ bodied with nice full round mouthfeel showing nice freshness and acidity. flavours of grapefruit and light bitterness and spicyness in the medium long aftertaste.
