Kuehling-Gillot - Nackenheim Riesling 2017
Pairing Suggestions
Kuehling-Gillot: Nackenheim Riesling 2017 (88 tsomw points)
The grapes of this VDP.Ortswein come from parcels on the world famous Rote Hang in Nackenheim. Here, the Tonschieferbank appears to the surface, before disappearing underground again a few kilometers further south at Nierstein.
After extensive new plantings in Nackenheim, the Riesling vines of Kühling-Gillot have now reached the right age to produce a large and sublime wine. For example, this white wine is a prototype of a crystal-clear Riesling from the Roten Schiefer. The Nackenheim parcels have a lower southern exposure compared to the Niersteiner vineyards.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color with greenish rim.
On the nose delicate aromas of dried apricot, lemon and peach with hints of herbs, smoke and slate.
On the palate dry, medium-bodied and juicy with nice lively acidity and concentrated yellow fruits. Light creamy in the mouth because of the partial expansion in large old barrels.
