Kellerei Bozen - “Stegher” Chardonnay Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2018
Kellerei Bozen - “Stegher” Chardonnay Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2018 (90+ TSW)
Great to refresh my memory how I love these Alto Adige wines. This is how I like a good Chardonnay. Hope to get back in that area a.s.a.p!
The vineyards for this rich yet elegant Chardonnay are located on the stony porphyry slopes of up to 650 meters above sea level on the Ritten above Bolzano. The sun-exposed porphyry slopes are exposed to strong temperature fluctuations. These site properties are evident in the grapes as mineral notes and noble acidity.
Gentle pressing and fermentation followed by second fermentation in barriques and tonneau; further aging in the bottle.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright straw yellow color.
On the medium(+) nose delicate aromas of citrus, mango and white peach with hints of flowers, apricot, herbs and light vanilla.
On the palate dry, medium(++) bodied with medium acidity and nice freshness. Powerful but elegant in the mouth with white fruits, vanilla, nuts and honey melon. Light buttery but fresh medium(+) length finish. This will be perfect after 1, 2 years in the bottle.
To pair with grilled fish, shellfish and crustaceans, white meats and poultry.
