Kellerei Bozen - Greel Sauvignon Blanc Riserva 2018 (89+ TSW)
The current weather in the Netherlands suits perfectly with this refined Sauvignon Blanc from Alto Adige where the steep slopes on the Renon above Bolzano offer ideal conditions for producing a quality white wine.
The grapes of this SB are gently pressed, fermented and maturated in barriques and tonneau; with further aging in the bottle.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color with greenish reflections.
On the medium(+) nose aromad of gooseberries, peach and lemon with hints of herbs, white flowers and cedar hints.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with medium(+) acidity and nice freshness. Very elegant Sauvignon Blanc example with refinement and a medium length citrus and tropical fruit finish.
Excellent when paired with grilled fish, hearty dishes, white meat and soft cheese.
Kellerei Bozen (or Cantina Bolzano in Italian) is the quality cooperative of the city of the same name in South Tyrol (It: Alto Adige). It is a fusion of 2 previous cooperatives: the one of Gries from 1908 (especially famous for their wines from the grape lagrein, on clay soils along the river Eisack (Isarco)) and that of St. Magdalena from 1930 (specializing in wine from vernatsch (also called schiava)). Numerous typical regional wines are made, both basic wines and wines from a specific terroir.
The wines of this winery are always very precise; terroir and / or grape is always good to taste. The style has become even more elegant in recent years, a direct result of the move to a new winery carved into the mountains. The winemaking process here is arranged vertically, so that there is no need for pumping. This ensures pure wines with sparkling clear flavors.
