Joaquin - Dall'Isola Campania Bianco 2018 (90 TSW)
Joaquin winery, located in Montefalcione, home to the two DOCG wines, Fiano di Avellino and Aglianico Taurasi, was founded on a mission: to become the flag bearer for one of the great wines of Campania, the Fiano.
The "Dall'Isola" wine is a white wine produced from the grape varieties traditionally grown on the island of Capri: Greco, Falanghina, Biancolella and Ciunchesa. The vineyards are located in the Anacapri area, on steep and steep slopes, characterized by predominantly sandy soils. The harvest usually takes place in the first weeks of October and the best grapes are quickly transported to the Joaquin winery in Montefalcione, where they dry for about a month. Dehydration of the berries leads to a natural concentration of aromas and sugars. Then we move on to the classic white vinification in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged in steel tanks for several months before being bottled.
Joaquin's white "Dall'Isola" is an unusual and special expression. It is one of the few wines produced with grapes grown on the island of Capri and made with the technique of drying the grapes to get a more intense, concentrated and aromatic richer white.
Blend of 90% Greco , 10% Falanghina and Biancolella.
My tasting notes:
In the glass an intense straw yellow color with golden reflections.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of white peach, citrus and ripe apple with hints of cedar, orangepeel, hay and salty notes.
On the palate dry, medium(++) bodied with medium acidity and excellent freshness. Round, warm and juicy with great balance. Flavours are a recall of the nose with a nice fresh medium(+) length finish.
This isn't a crowd pleaser but the real wine lover will certainly appreciate this wine.
To pair with warm fish snacks, vegetable sauce pasta, ppetizers with smoked fish, pasta with fish in white, risotto with vegetables.
