Isole E Olena - Chianti Classico 2015
Pairing Suggestions
Isole E Olena - Chianti Classico 2015 (90 TSW)
This Chianti is a blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Canaiolo and 5% Syrah.
In 2015 the Italian summer was very hot and dry; the bunches were small and so the yields too. The wines are powerful, full and long lasting. You can easlily keep this one in the cellar till 2025/2030
My tasting notes:
In the glass an intense ruby red color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of dark cherries, blackberries and raspberries with hints of toast, herbs and tea.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with medium+ acidity and tannins showing complex flavours of blackberries, cherries and cloves. The finish is long with again cherries, berries and toast. This Chianti has alot of potential. The other bottles I keep some years in the cellar.
About the winery:
The winery owes its double name to the amalgamation, long ago, of two separate possessions. Olena is a medieval hamlet surrounded by vineyards, Isole is an old farmhouse. The property is almost 300 hectares, of which 250 hectares of forest, 40 hectares of vineyard and a few hectares of olive trees. In the 1950s, the Turin lawyer De Marchi came into possession of the whole through a series of coincidences. In 1976, his youngest son, Paolo, settled in Isole after a winegrowing study in Turin and an internship in California. He was the one who reorganized the winery, and with it turned it into one of the best Chianti domains. After all the investments on the agricultural side it was finally the turn of the cellar: in 2001 the beautiful new, largely underground cellar could be inaugurated.
