Intipalka Valle del Sol - Tannat 2018 (86 TSW)
After tasting some wines from Peru at the Prowein fair I found out that there are quite beautiful and qualitative wines produced. This 100% Tannat from the ICA Valley is no exception.
About the wine:
Intipalka – Means “valley of the sun” in Quechua, a language spoken during the Inca Empire. It refers to the valley where the wines come from, the ICA Valley, which has been known since ancient times for its climate and exceptional soils for agriculture.
The vineyards are located at the foot of the Andes, 500 meters above sea level and over 60 km from the coast. from the coast they have a desert climate, with a large thermal amplitude; Loamy, deep, magnesium-rich soils.
Manipulated irrigation and manual harvesting. The vinification is carried out at a controlled temperature, in stainless steel tanks and aged in French and American oak barrels.
My tasting notes:
First I decanted this young wine.
In the glass a deep garnet red color.
On the medium+ nose of blackberries, figs and dried cherries with hints of olives, smoke, cinnamon and black pepper.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with medium acidity and ripe tannins. Flavours are a recall of the nose with dark fruits, stawberry compote, herbs and meaty tones and ends with a medium light spicy finish.
