Inama - Vigneti di Foscarino Soave Classico 2017 (90 TSW)
In the 1960s, Giuseppe Inama, the founder of the estate, started buying small plots of vineyards in the heart of the Soave Classico. His idea was to collect only top quality vineyards from old Garganega vineyards and turn them into a wine capable of restoring Soave's reputation. This has more than succeeded over the years.
Soave Classico is the hilly area where vineyards were planted during Roman times. It is ideally suited for the development of white wine with its volcanic soil: pure basaltic lava, the only area with these specific characteristics in Italy. In total, the Inamas now own 30 hectares of vineyards.
Foscarino is their interpretation of the Soave Classico that looks back to ancient times. It recalls ancestral traditions in order to revive forgotten aromas. Selection from old vines, more than 40 years old. Vineyards are located in the Monte Foscarino: basaltic-volcanic soil and south-east exposure of the vines.
100% Garganega: this variety was introduced in the Classic area 2,000 years ago by the Romans.
Fermentation takes place in used barriques. Prior to racking, batonnage is carried out every 6 weeks for about 6 months. Fining for 6 months in stainless steel vats.
Great ageing potential until 10-15 years.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright yellow color with straw yellow reflections.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of ripe peaches, yellow apple and light cedar with hints of almonds, vanilla, honey and dried flowers.
On the palate dry, medium(+) bodied with medium acidity and nice freshness. Powerful but elegant with a nice round mouthfeel which are a recall of the nose with a medium(+) light bitter length finish.
Rich food wine with great culinary potential: grilled lobster, flat oysters, white meat (veal, poultry). Vitello tonato, rich fish soups and risottos. Artisanal cheeses (hard and soft rinds).
