Il Roncal - Ploe di Stelis (88 TSW)
A wine from Friuli which is the blend of three prestigious grapes: Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon. It’s name is Friulan and means: shower of stars. I really enjoyed this refreshing white. It keeps me smelling and sipping and that’s a good sign!
We paired it with ravioli, spinache, tomatoes, cream cheese and bacon. The three grapes are destalked and lightly pressed together and then cooled to a temperature of 14° followed by cryomaceration for 24 hours. The must is separated from the skins followed by natural cold decantation. Fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature.
30% of the product completes its fermentation in oak barriques remaining on noble lees for a period of 7 months. Weekly batonnage takes place for the first four months. Once the wine is reassembled, it remains in the stainless steel tanks to repose until July. A further refinement period of 2 months follows in the bottle.
My notes:
In the glass a bright straw yellow color with light copper reflections.
On the medium+ nose aromas of citrus, grass, stonefruit and grapefruit with hints of white blossom and something vegetal.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with beautiful freshness and acidity. Elegant, warm and round in the mouth with light wood hints. Nice intense and mineral aftertaste.
