Pairing Suggestions
I Greppi - Greppicante Bolgheri 2009 (88 tsomw points)
Blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.
Tenuta I Greppi is a joint project between The Landini family of Fattoria Viticcio @viticciowinery one of Chianti Classico’s leading producers, and the Cancellieri-Scaramuzzi family. The vineyards are located near Castagneto Carducci, which is kind of like ground zero for Bolgheri wines. The other major player in this area, Ornellaia, would ofcourse agree with this.
About the wine:
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28C. At the end of fermentation, maceration follows immediately for a period of 15 to 18 days at a temperature of around 25C. Malolactic fermentation take place in wood where the wine is also aged. Aged for 12 months in 2 and 3 years old barrels of French oak and then 3 months in bottle before release.
Pairing with eggplant, vegetables, minced meat and cheese.
My tasting notes (first decanter)
In the glass a deep ruby red color with garnet reflections.
On the palate intense aromas of dark ripe cherries, blackberries and plums with hints of wet earth, tobacco, vanilla and spices.
On the palate full-bodied, dry with nice acidity and well integrated tannins. Nice round and soft in the mouth. Long and clean finish.
