Herdade dos Grous – Branco 2017 (88 tsomw points)
Two weeks ago we visited their winery and did a tasting of their lovely wines. We paired the wine with tuna steak, crab and vegetables. It was a great pairing.
My tasting notes:
Blend of Arinto, Roupeiro and Antão Vaz.
In the glass a greenish yellow color.
On the nose intense aromas of peach, tropical friut and some salty citrus.
On the palate dry, well balanced with nice round mouthfeel showing flavours of tropical fruits, lime and yellow apples. The finish is refreshing with light almond hint.
About the winery:
Herdade dos Grous is one of the best wineries in Portugal, from the province of Alentejo. Winemaker Luis Duarte is the only one who was twice named Portuguese winemaker of the year. On Herdade dos Grous he makes white and red quality wines from native Portuguese grapes such as Arinto and Touriga Nacional.
The winemaking at Herdade dos Grous started in 1986. It is only one of the activities that this particular company undertakes. In addition to grapes, olive trees and orange trees are managed and cattle and jumping horses are bred. But everything Herdade dos Grous does is respectful of nature. That is why the use of pesticides is limited to the minimum.
The winemaking is led by Luis Duarte. In 1997 and in 2007, he was proclaimed Portuguese winemaker of the year. There is no one who can say this also. Luis strives to make blends of various native Portuguese grapes that match the taste of the international wine lover.
