Gloire de Duras - Riesling 'Clos de Duras' 2018 (87+TSW)
Have you ever tried a wine from Belgium?
This is another example of a well made white wine from this Belgium winemaker. I already tried their Chardonnay – Auxerrois blend. Gloire de Duras estate is located in the heart of Haspengouw, namely in Wilderen (Sint-Truiden). One of the plots where Riesling is planted is located in the old vegetable garden of the Castle of Duras. Unique to this planting is that this is a clos (a walled vineyard). There is a microclimate overthere. The heat lingers a little longer so that the grapes mature more easily.
About this clos wine:
Only the best grapes from their clos at Duras Castle were selected for this Riesling.
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color.
On the medium nose aromas of lemon, ripe nectarine and green apple with hints of spices.
On the palate dry, medium+ acidity and nice freshness. Nice interplay between the acidity and the little sweetness. Nicely balanced with a nice finish. Would like to try over 2/3 years
To join with fish dishes, poultry and creamy cheeses.
