Another wine we tasted blind with the tasteteam was this wine from Israel. Available at @puurwijn.shop
Did you ever taste a wine from Israel?
Galil Mountain was founded in 2000. The grapes come from vineyards scattered across the Upper Galilee mountain range, the region north of Haifa and one of Israel's best wine regions.
The vineyards are located at 800 meters high and provided with a top layer of mainly slate. Each vineyard has its own terroir and microclimate, which enables the winemaker Micha Vaadia to make these nice blends.
At Galil Mountain Winery, they have taken on numerous projects to make sustainability a way of life in the winery, the vineyards and their social environment.
The Flagship wine Yiron from Galil Mountain is a blend produced from grapes from the Upper Galilee vineyards.
The wine underwent fermentation on skins at 30ºC for 14-21 days, complete malolactic fermentation and aged for 16 months in French oak barrels.
Blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 9% Syrah and 7% Petit Verdot.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark ruby red color.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of cassis, blackberries and plum jam with hints of liquorice, cloves, black pepper, anise and earthy hints.
On the palate dry, medium(++) bodied with medium acidity and round tannins. Light sweetness at the palate which makes it easy and round but not too yammy. Fruit forward in the medium(+) length finish. A bit high in alcohol.
To pair with beef bourguignon, stew, pepper steak, roast beef and Eastern Mediterranean cuisine.
