Gagliole - Rubiolo Chianti Classico 2018 (89 TSW)
Today the entry level red from Gagliole. A 100% Sangiovese from the good 2018 vintage which is excellent to pair with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, veal shank (osso buco), lamb or young wild boar. Made for fine Italian cuisine. Check also their other wines. They are magical.
The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 450 to 480 meters with a south and south-west orientation. The soil consists of loam with the porous and pulverized Tuscan rock (Galestro).
The grapes are hand-picked after a strict selection (after production reducing passages, twice green harvest, and an extremely strict sorting). Destruction and bruising. The fermentation takes place under temperature control with a soaking process of 15 to 18 days.
Obtained from Sangiovese grapes, the must ferments in steel, then 50% of the wine matures in french oak barriques and 50% in cement tanks, followed by a further 3 months in bottle before release.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark ruby red color with garnet reflections.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of raspberries, dark cherries and blackcurrants with cedar, bay leaf, black pepper and eucalyptus.
On the palate dry, medium(+) bodied with medium(+) acidity, medium alcohol and ripe tannins. Flavours of dark ripe cherries, raspberries, black pepper, cedar and young leather. Clean and delicate aftertaste.
