Gabbas - Vermentino di Sardegna Manzanile 2018 (87 TSW)
After all those bold red ones it's time to open a refreshing white one from Sardegna. Close your eyes and you feel the sun on your skin.
In the glass a bright golden yellow color with green reflections.
On the medium nose aromas of pear, citrus and nectarines with light hints of barrique, herbs and white flowers.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with medium acidity and soft mouthfeel. Flavours of pear, nectarines and herbs with a light almond medium aftertaste.
This makes it a perfect accompaniment to a salad with orange and olives, grilled sardines or misto fritto.
With an annual production of only 70,000 bottles, originating from twenty hectares of vineyard, the retired lawyer Giuseppe Gabbas is a small Sardinian producer. The Italian wine guide Gambero Rosso nevertheless calls him "un grande viticoltore", one of the best winemakers on the island.
In particular, the refinement and drinkability are mentioned. Giuseppe's vineyard is situated just south of Nuoro, the capital of the Barbagia mountain region, and benefits from the cool sea breezes and the downwind winds. Not only good for the red grapes, but certainly also for its vineyard with white vermentino grapes.
The vinification is classic with a maturation of six months in small oak barrels.
