Framingham - F-Series Pinot Noir 2016
Pairing Suggestions
Framingham - F-Series Pinot Noir 2016 (87 TSW) from Marlborough /NZ
The Marlborough wine region is by far New Zealand's largest, accounting for three quarters of the country's wine production, 70% of its vineyard area and 85% of its wine exports. Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is the most known variety in NZ I think.
Framingham is definitely one of New Zealand's most exciting wineries. It has a story that is completely unusual for conditions in New Zealand. Riesling vines were planted in the first vineyards, planted in 1981, and the winery has become known worldwide for this variety.
Andrew Hedley, a Riesling-obsessed Englishman, became a winemaker at Framingham in 1997 and has been thrilling ever since. The innovation spark spread to other grape varieties, especially Pinot Noir. Accordingly, the pinots of the winery are now also highly rated, especially the F series is highly sought after. The F series includes the winery's most unique wines.
For pinot noir this means: fermentation with 80% whole grapes including style and stem.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a cloudy ruby red color.
On the medium nose aromas of cherries and raspberries with hints of flowers, forest floor, cedar and spices.
On the palate dry, medium-bodied with nice round mouthfeel, medium tannins and acidity. Easy drinking Pinot ????
