Fortress - Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County 2016 (87 TSW)
Today a very nice and easy cab from Sonoma County with a very nice pqr.
Fortress Winery is located in Heart of Sonoma County, on the edge of the Maycamas Mountains. There are two grandchildren of the best cabernet sauvignon vineyards in California. It is precisely this grape variety that winemaker Kristy Melton specialized in at Fortress Winery. Kristy is coming to Texas. Where she ended up in wine, she works in science.
Today she combines her love of science with her passion for excellent cabernet sauvignon. Well, the African of hair MSc in viticulture and oenology at Davis in 2007, she joined Iron Horse, Seresin in New Zealand and Clos du Val, eventually becoming Chief Winemaker. After receiving numerous accolades, including Wine Enthusiasts 'Top 40 Under 40 Most Influential People in Wine' and Drink's Business 'Top 20 and 40 Best Winemakers in the World', they will be noticed at Jackson Family Estates, where she now works for the Fortress Winery.
The fruit of the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Valley comes from Sonoma and mainly from Alexander Valley and the rolling hills on the edge of Mount St. Helena. The fruit was harvested ripe, destemmed and slowly fermented. The cuvée contains about 85% cabernet sauvignon and other parts malbec and merlot. The wine matured for more than fourteen months in French and American oak barrels, with a new wood content of 15%.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep ruby red color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of blackberries, dark cherries, plums and chocolate with hints of tobacco, cedar and black pepper.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with medium+ tannins and acidity. Smooth and round in the mouth and not too bold. A nice every day wine with good value.
This will be perfect with grilled red meats, strong cheeses and mushroom dishes.
