Pairing Suggestions
Feudi di San Gregorio - Merlot Pàtrimo 2015 (90 TSW)
Another highlight from Campania. 97 Points Robert Parker and compared to Masseto and Petrus.
Feudi di San Gregorio Merlot 'Pàtrimo' Campania 2015 is prepared from 100% Merlot and after the careful manual harvest and a strict selection of the best grapes, the wine is macerated and fermented at a controlled temperature. He then matured for 18 months in French oak barriques and 10 months in the bottle.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep dark red color with violet reflections.
On the medium+ nose ripe cherries, dark plums and blackberries with well integrated aromas of cedar, tobacco, vanilla, coffee and bell pepper.
On the palate dry, medium++ bodied, with medium+ acidity and ripe medium+ tannins. Very nice harmony, structure and flavours of spices, dark cherries and licorice. Nice and long persistent finish. I will keep the two other bottles for some more time in my cellar.
Feudi di San Gregorio, a winning and highly reputable name. This name stands for the revival of the wine culture of Campania and even the whole of southern Italy. In 1986 the winery was founded in Sorbo Serpico in the province of Avellino. It is located 55 kilometers east of Naples. Feudi di San Gregorio is one of the wineries that has made an important contribution to the resurrection of viticulture in the region, which now produces great wines.
Feudi di San Gregorio has lost none of its dynamic and energetic leading role, on the contrary even. Antonio Capaldo and Pierpaolo Sirch still show how good the wines of Campania can be. For example, winery has become a company that sets the tone almost 30 years after its establishment. The two stars the winery received from the Gambero Rosso also prove this. Each star represents ten wines that received the legendary three glasses. This puts Feudi di San Gregorio on the same level as the great Antinori and Castello di Ama from Tuscany.
