Pairing Suggestions
Fattoria Casa di Terra - Moreccio Bolgheri 2012 (86 TSW)
Blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon - 40% Merlot and 10% Syrah.
Casa di Terra is a family-run estate since 1950 and owns approximately 120 hectares, including 45 cultivated under DOC Bolgheri and IGT Toscana wines.
Founded by the grandparents of the current owners Giuliano and Gessica Frollani. In the past, the Frollani family cultivated mainly vegetables and olive trees with a small share of vines. Over the years, more and more vines have been planted and since 2001 almost the entire estate has been planted with vines.
The new Casa di Terra’s winery, located in the middle of the DOC Bolgheri, is active since 2013. Surrounded by the vineyards the building is unique in the wine-producing panorama of Bolgheri: its design, not intrusive and its rigorous architecture make the winery, made of steel and cement, the ideal place to host the wine production.
About the wine:
Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 26/28 ° C for 20 days, carried out with native yeasts naturally present on the grapes, spontaneous malolactic fermentation during aging. Aging for a minimum of six months in French oak barrels from 3rd - 4th passage and 6 months in the bottle. This wine is bottled without being filtered or treated for clarification to maintain its integrity.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep ruby red color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of dark cherries, plums and blackberries with hints of cedar, vanilla and almond.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with a recall of the nose with hints of cinnamon. Tannins and acidity have a medium intensity. Finish has a medium length.
