Falkenstein - Riesling 2016
Pairing Suggestions
Falkenstein – Riesling 2016 (89 TSW)
Mabye you know I am a big fan of white wines from Alto Adige. And also this wine is a match.
Location of this vineyard is at the steep south slope Sonnenberg between 600-900 meters with a granite soil. The wine is fermentated and aged in large Acacia barrels for 10 months, then another 12 months bottle in the cellar.
Tasting notes:
In the glass a pale yellow color with green reflections.
On the medium+ nose aromas of citrus, pear and flint with nice light swiff of petrol.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with nice interplay between acidity and light sweetness. Light waxy, warm with flavours of pear, tropical fruits and white flowers with nice minerality.
Would be great to try this over 3-5 years and look how it has evolved.
To match with white fish and poultry.
About the winery:
This wine estate is located in Naturns on the Sonneberg above the "Schloss Hochnaturns" castle where Franz Pratzner started viticulture in 1989. His desire to produce quality wines has led to mainly white wines being raised in Acacia barrels. Due to the soil structure and the vinification, the wines have a very good storage potential.
The impenetrable terrain of primary rock (granite), exposed to the south, lends itself perfectly to the cultivation of vines. Falkenstein has 12 hectares of vines at an altitude between 590-900 meters. The company is known for its high quality Riesling, both nationally and internationally. production of 90,000 bottles.
