Ernst Triebaumer - Maulwurf 2015

Ernst Triebaumer - Maulwurf 2015 (89 TSW)
The Triebaumer family has been based in Rust since 1691 and are known as producers of very good wines, especially the Blaufränkisch. The Triebaumers are a close-knit family and almost 100% self-sufficient. Dealing with flora and fauna is extremely important to them. Electricity is generated itself, the water for cooling wines during fermentation comes from its own well and is then completely returned to nature. A flock of sheep 'works' in the vineyards, which as a team are perfectly deployed for defoliation, mowing and the creation of sufficient humus that in turn stores CO2 and is good for the environment.
They produce about 100.000 bottles each year from around 20 hectares of their own vineyards. 100% organic work is done in the vineyards only not official certified. It is not without reason that the Blaufränkisch from the Mariental vineyard has been one of the best-rated red wines from Austria for years and is highly appreciated by wine experts.
About the wine:
A very nice cuvée of younger vines from Burgenland wine region with 60% Blaufränkisch, refined with roughly equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Spontaneously fermented, aged in used wooden barrels between 300 and 500 liters for 6 to 22 months, unfiltered in the bottle.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark ruby red color with violet reflections.
On the medium nose aromas of dark berries, cherries and elderberries with hints of chocolate, liquorice and light vanilla.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with medium acidity and tannins. Juicy and warm flavours with elegant structure. Cherry, currants and dark chocolate in the taste. Long red berries in the finish.
