Emil Bauer & Söhne - Cultor 2015 (89+ TSW)
This Pfalz blend fits perfect with the current Dutch weather.
The red selection wines from the Emil Bauer & Sons winery in Landau-Nussdorf in the southern Palatinate (Pfalz wine region) are currently causing a sensation in the wine world. With selected grape varieties that are often atypical for the region, in finely tuned cuvées, the brothers Alexander and Martin Bauer delight critics and wine lovers alike.
For the dry Cultor Cuvée, the Bauer brothers use the grape varieties Petit Verdot, Merlot, Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The red wine made from it is reminiscent of great French Bordeaux cuvées.
My tasting notes:
36-month barrel aging for this blend. First decant the wine for an hour.
In the glass a deep ruby red color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of dark cherries, blueberries and ripe red fruit with hints of smoke, spices, violets, dried herbs and wet leaves.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannins. Concentrated and young flavours of warm fruit, roasted cedar, fine spices, meat and dark fruits. Long and persistent finish. Nice to drink at young age but better in a few years.
