Elio Grasso - Barolo Riserva Rüncot 1999 (90 TSW)
This beautiful aged Barolo we tasted at vinoandfriends maastricht.
I hope we have the opportunity to do a tasting in the near future.
The Elio Grasso Estate, located in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba, has 42 hectares of land of which 24 are forests and meadows that surround the 18 hectares of vineyards, within the World Heritage site.
After an initial period in which the proceeds from the vineyards went to the cooperative, it was decided in 1978 to make their own wine.
With the aim of claiming their own place in the quality wine market, the vineyards were redesigned and the Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto grapes were planted. Not much later the Chardonnay was added.
Today, annual production does not exceed 90.000 bottles. With this, the quality and personal approach and approach can be guaranteed and Elio Grasso maintains careful control over all stages of wine production, from vineyard to cellar.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a wonderful brick red color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of forest floor, mushrooms, black tea and some smoky hints of dried cherries and mocha.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with medium acidity and soft tannins. Flavours of bacon, truffles and smokey hints. Nice and long finish.
It’s at it’s drinking window so I wouldn’t wait longer to open it.
