Domus Aurea - Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 (93 TSW)
Last Saturday we had a great evening with friends, wines and cheese.
This one was my favorite of the evening. A big bold Cab blend from the Alto Maipo region.
Blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep garnet red color.
On the medium+ nose lovely aromas of blackberries, dark cherries with wel integrated hints of tobacco, leather, mushrooms and vanilla.
On the palate full-bodied with great round mouthfeel, very concentrated, medium acidity, fine grained tannins and well balanced. Great long and soft finish.
Outstanding with grilled lamb, beef, game and poultry.
The unique 'Clos Quebrada de Macul' wall surrounds one of the smallest but most prestigious vineyards of Chile. This domain, on a beautiful slope, the foot of the Andes, and just outside capital Santiago, has an extremely separate and unique 'terroir'. One that every winemaker dreams of ... The 'Clos' houses 16.5 ha Cabernet Sauvignon. Supertalent, the Frenchman-Chilean Jean-Pascal Lacaze gets carte blanche from owner & lawyer Ricardo Peña. Ricardo completed several real estate developers who wanted to parcel the desired terrain.
The domain of Domus Aurea, Latin for golden house, produces 3 wines of nobility. Prince of the golden house is 'Alba de Domus', clear young scion with strokes of the big one Domus Aurea. Queen of the house is 'Stella Aurea', a model of female elegance and sophistication. And last but not least to the throne, King Domus Aurea ', power and aristocracy.
