Domaine Tour Saint-Michel - Cuvée des Deux Sœurs Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2015 (89 TSW)
Domaine Tour Saint Michel is located in the town of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, south of the appellation. It is the property of the Fabre family for 3 generations. Michel Fabre, founder of the Domaine in 1930, passed on his passion to his son Henri. Together with the help of his wife Eliane, develops and enlarges the estate, which now stands at 40 hectares, including 35 hectares in Châteauneuf du Pape.
Today, Mireille, their Daughter, manages the vineyard, in the respect of the family tradition by bringing a more modern style. The name of this cuvée (Deux sœurs = Two sisters) is a tribute to the importance of family and fact that 2 sisters successively manage the domaine.
The Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Deux Sœurs is very nice. It is comprised of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah, from the Gallimardes and Les Petites Serres lieux-dits, that was completely destemmed and aged 12 months all in concrete tank. My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright medium ruby red color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of cherries, red berries, provencal herbs, spices and thyme.
On the palate medium bodied with medium acidity and soft round mouthfeel (medium ripe tannins). Very balanced and elegant showing berry fruit, raspberries and cherries with a light spicy finish. With a little longer air the fruit gets a little sweeter.
