De Apostelhoeve - Cuvée XII 2018 (88 TSW)
The weather is perfect for opening this nice white blend of 40% Müller-Thurgau, 30% Auxerrois and 30% Pinot Gris from Dutch winery de Apostelhoeve. Some weeks ago we visited this winery arranged by Bovino wineshop.
The winery is located south of the city of Maastricht on the Louwberg, in the extension of the Cannerberg on the west side of the Jeker valley.
The soil consisting of pebble and marl with a layer of loess on top lends itself perfectly to the grape varieties: pinot gris, riesling, auxerrois and rivaner. Of these grape varieties, only white wines are made that are related in style and production to wines from Alsace and that also have a wonderfully fresh, mineral taste.
This blend is in terms of volume, the most important wine from the Apostelhoeve.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color.
On the medium+ nose delicate aromas of peach, apricot and green apple with hints of pineapple and blossom.
On the palate dry, clean and fresh with medium+ acidity and a little splash of residual sweetness and a light pétille. Flavours of pineapple, apricot and hints of almond and nutty tones. Nice long and persistent aftertaste.
