100% Nerello Mascalese – 8.000 bottles.
The Nerello Masacalese is an Italian blue grape that can be found in Sicily, on the high volcanic slopes of Mount Etna. It grows there in the form of small bushes. Thanks to the enormous improvements in Sicilian viticulture, Nerello Mascalese has received the recognition that it deserves as a variety with great quality potential.
Because of their aromas, his wines are sometimes compared to those from Barolo or Burgundy. The Burgundy of the Mediterranean. What do you think of this statement?
Now talking about the wine:
A single-vineyard red wine from one of the most wanted cru sites on the northern side of the Etna volcano.
Destemming and maceration with skin contact, at controlled temperature, 28°C, for about 30 days. Fermentation in controlled temperature, 26-28°C, with constant pumping of must over grapes and wine-pressing. Malolactic fermentation in French oak casks. 14-16 months in French oak casks. Followed by 18 months aging in bottle.
In the glass a bright ruby red color.
On the medium nose aromas of red berries, cherries and plums with hints of spices, laurel and dried flowers.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with medium acidity and tannins. Nicely balanced with good structure showing flavours of red berries, smoke, licorice and earthy minerals. Nice long aftertaste with good aging potential.
