Costes Cirgues - Font de Marinas 2017
Pairing Suggestions
Costes Cirgues - Font de Marinas 2017 (87 TSW)
Blend of Grenache blanc, Marsanne and Vermentino.
Domaine Costes Cirgues is a small family Chateau and winery at Sommieres a little way north of Montpellier (Languedoc). Beatrice Althoff discovered the Chateau when looking for a holiday home. Her son David was looking for a job so they decided to take on restoring the old Chateau and David took on the vineyards that came with the property.
The Costes-Cirgues estate is made up of small parcels with vines and olive trees planted side-by-side. The remarkable diversity of the soils – slate, gravel, chalk, flint and marl – give each parcel its own unique character.
The Mediterranean climate, lightly sloping hillsides and the dry stone walls encircling the parcels leave their special mark on the wines and olive oil of Costes-Cirgues.
This environment and climate offer the ideal conditions for organic and biodynamic agriculture. In order to implement our convictions until the final product, they decided from the beginning to add no sulfites to our wines.
After the grapes arrive at the winery, the grapes are immediately pressed. The must settles at a low temperature. About 10% is fermented in wooden barrels. The rest of the fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright golden, orange color.
On the medium+ nose typical nose of yellow apple, ripe quince and flowers with hints of herbs, hazelnuts and light cedar.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with nice round mouthfeel and medium acidity. Light waxy with nice freshness and flavours of yellow fruits, apricot and peach with again those typical herbs. The finish is nice with fruit and light bitterness.
To pair with fruit salad, terrines, fish, shellfish and Morbier cheese and as an aperitif.
