Conreria d’Scala Dei - Les Brugueres D.O.Ca. Priorat – blanc 2007 (91 TSW)
During one of our Priorat evenings I took with this bottle.
Grenache blanc from 2007!
Once I tasted this one at young age so now I was very curious about this 14 years old one.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright straw yellow color.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of apricot, marmelade and citrus with hints of hazelnuts, honey, white blossom and herbs.
On the palate medium(++)bodied, complex and balanced, with soft light waxy mouthfeel. Still enough acidity with nice spices, melon, pears, honey and nuts on the palate. Nice medium(+) length finish.
About the winery:
Founded in 1997 by three friends-- a priest, a teacher and a winemaker-- this bodega is named after the 12th century Cartoixa d'Escaladei, a Carthusian Monastery now in ruins located in the nearby village of Scala Dei-- which translates as the Ladder of God. The very talented and energetic Jordi Vila is the winemaker and the driving force behind the project. He fell in love with Priorat while studying viticulture and oenology in nearby Falset and has the utmost respect for the region and its rich winemaking history. They own and lease about 25 ha, the majority of them over 30 years old with some vineyards up to 80 years old.
