Pairing Suggestions
Colombera & Garella - Lessona Pizzaguerra 2013 (89 TSW)
Lessona is a municipality in the Italian province of Biella (Piedmont region). Due to its location and unique sandy soils, the wines have great aging potential and bright acidity.
Colombera & Garella is project of with Cristiano Garella, Alto Piemontese wünderkind and leading consultant for a number of properties, with his long-time friend Giacomo Colombera, and Giacomo’s father, Carlo, who has been growing grapes in Bramaterra since the early 1990s. This property has quickly become one of the gems alto piemonte, especially in the Lessona and Bramaterra growing areas.
10 days in concrete tanks with 30 days skin contact, without temperature control. Malolactic fermentation: Spontaneous, in May-June and 24 months in second and third passage tonneaux.
My notes:
It’s better to give this wine to open up. Use a decanter to give it some rest and air.
Excellent 95% Nebbiolo and 5%Vespolina blend.
In the glass a pale garnet color.
On the nose medium aromas of leather, earth and violets mixed with dark berries, cherries, toast and herbs.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with great elegance, medium+ acidity and medium tannins. The palate shows flavours of dark cherries, raspberries, white pepper, leather and anise. Medium alcohol and medium finish with vibrant tannins. This will even get better after some storage time.
