Clos de Portal - Negre De Negres 2010 Priorat
Pairing Suggestions
Clos de Portal - Negre De Negres 2010 Priorat (90 TSW)
Blend of Grenache, Carignan and Syrah.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark garnet color.
On the medium+ nose delicate aromas of dark forest fruit, plums and black currants with well integrated hints of chocolate, herbs, leather and smoke.
On the palate dry, medium++ body with great balance and roundness. Flavours are a recall of the nose with a long and pleasant finish.
About the wine / winery:
Estate wine, major synthesis of Clos del Portal, it brings together productions from all the sites that make it up. Multiple fermentations carried out according to the successive ripening stages, regardless of the varieties. Predominance of Grenache, along with all the rest of the clones recovered by massal reproduction. Expression of the crust of the Mediterranean terroir. Commitment between the imagined tradition and the new Priorat.
Clos del Portal started its recovery process in 2001. Today it embraces more than 50 hectares, a microclimate in which more or less half are vineyards and the rest are olive and almond tree crops, surrounded by Mediterranean forest. It represents an example of biodiversity, after a continuous ecologic viticulture exercise moving towards biodynamics. Austerity, dry climate and extreme conditions.
The vineyards, half in terraces half in hillsides, lay on a rugged orography, in a succession of ridges and cliffs of the different mountains. The cellar and the rest of the constructions are a prolongation of the landscape, almost taking part in the topography. Architecture that is also ecological (grape gets in through gravity flow, passive measures for thermic control…) The only silhouette that is trimmed is the old Mas del Portal, dominating the wide valley where the Siurana River flows.
