Chateau Pesquie - Cotes du Ventoux Cuvee des Terrasses Rouge 2016 (87 tsomw points)
Blend of 60 % Grenache and 40 % Syrah.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark ruby red color.
On the nose intense aromas of blackberries, raspberries and cassis with spicy hints and herbs.
On the palate elegant and well balanced with nice round mouthfeel and fresh fruitness. The palate shows flavours of cherries, blackberries with some cacao and pepper and saltiness. The finish is nice with some earthy hints.
The story:
Frédéric Chaudière and his brother Alexandre run Château Pesquié together, located at the foot of Mont Ventoux. Their 72 hectares of vineyards lie within a radius of up to 5 km around the Château in the municipality of Mormoiron. The ecological way of working, in combination with a good quality and varied soil, the right grape varieties with a considerable age and the favorable microclimate with the cooling effect of the Mont Ventoux, guarantee top quality wines.
The history of the winery is a real family history that began in the 70s of the last century, when Odette and René Bastide bought an old and dilapidated wine estate and renovated it bit by bit. Above all, the vineyards were well taken care of, the harvest they gave for 20 years to a cooperative. When around 1985 Odette's daughter Edith and her husband Paul Chaudière took over the estate, the vineyards were already in very good condition, with the fact that the southern Rhône area was promoted to a qualified wine-growing region. In the great wine year 1990, for example, the first Château Pesquié was launched. In 2003, both sons Alexandre and Frédéric took over the management of the estate together with their cousin Renaud. With a series of years that made a deep impression on the international press, they managed to get Château Pesquié in the top five of the Appellation Ventoux.
The wine cellar is equipped with the latest technology.
