Champagne Gremillet - Clos Rocher 2013 (91 TSW)
Only 2672 bottles made.
Today we are “visiting the Champagne”.. for me this was an “unknown producer” but with this new released champagne they are doing an excellent job.
The Gremillet estate was founded by Jean-Michel Gremillet in 1979 when he inherited a plot of land with vines from his mother, Lulu. Today, the house has more than 40 hectares of vineyards and is located in a small village 45 kilometers from Troyes - the historic capital of Champagne – in the Côte des Bars region.
Creating an enclosed vineyard has always been Jean-Michel Gremillet’s dream. It came true in 2012. 50 metres from the winery, on the finest Riceys terroir with perfect south, southwest exposure. It is a 1,4 hectare area exclusively planted with pinot noir vines, surrounded by stone walls.
Inside the Clos is a beautiful cadole, the traditional shelter for winegrowers, in olden times. This haven of peace and conviviality is the perfect place to taste their cuvée prestige, while watching the birds, bees and fairies fly by…
As the most precious of the family’s treasures, this cuvée is the epitome of their expertise. The Clos Rocher is a 2013 vintage of the best grape selection of a single-estate picked at full maturity.
It is composed exclusively of the cuvée (first press), with alcoholic fermentation at 16°C and malolactic fermentation at 18°C in stainless steel temperature-controlled vats. It is aged for 7 years minimum on lees. The BRUT DOSAGE at 7 gr/l with a liqueur expedition comes from finished bottles of Champagne.
About the Champagne.
A nicely shaped bottle with a traditional string closure presented in a beautiful package.
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color with tiny fine bubbles.
On the medium nose aromas of yellow ripe apple, citrus and some raspberries with hints of flowers, hazelnuts and light brioche.
On the palate dry, medium-bodied with a beautiful balance and freshness. Nice complexity and great marriage of all the flavours and finishing with a persistent medium+ finish.
