Celler Família Nin Ortiz - Nit de Nin Mas d'en Caçador 2015 (94/95+ TSW)
What a beautifull wine from Porrera - Priorat (Spain)
Decanted for 4 hours in the @pvradesign
Nit de Nin 'Mas d'en Caçador' Priorat 2015 consists of 60% Garnacha negra, Garnacha peluda and 40% Cariñena. The grapes come from old vines (90 years old) on the famous Llicorella slate, 650 meters above sea level. The grapes for this wine were harvested by hand and fermented as a whole with yeasts in natural oak barrels for a month. The wine matured for sixteen months in a 2.700 liter barrel (French oak). Less than 5.000 bottles were produced.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep purple red color - almost black.
On the medium(+) nose delicate aromas of blackberries, cassis and roses with hints of black pepper, eucalyptus, laurel and balsamico.
On the palate dry, full bodied with vibrant acidity and medium(+) ripe and fine tannins. Nicely layered, well balanced and with great complexity. Smooth, round and concentrated in the mouth. The finish has a medium(++) intensity. Already great but will be better and better.
At this gem, try the famous Conill amb xocolata, a rabbit in Catalan chocolate sauce. Venison, smoked ribs, full-bodied cheeses, braised lamb, or virtually any grilled meat or umami-rich roasted vegetable preparation is also a great idea.
About the winery:
The young Bodega Família Nin-Ortiz is located in Porrera, in the southwest of Priotat, 130 kilometers from Barcelona. In 2008, Ester Nin, a trained biologist and oenologist, and Carles Ortiz, an oenologist from Barcelona, married and merged their vineyards. As pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in the Priorat, they devote themselves to organic viticulture.
Covering 13 hectares at 400 to 650 meters above sea level, the small estate has one of the highest elevations in Priorat.
