Celler Cal Pla - Planots Priorat 2014 (95 TSW)
Last year one of the highest scores on my Instagram was the Planots 2013 with 95 points. Also this 2014 blew my socks off!!
We tasted with four winefriends and they all loved this one!
Planots is a red wine made by Celler Cal Pla in the DO Priorat in Porrera.
El Celler de Cal Pla is a small family winery that has been making wines since 1814. A knowledge and passion that has been put into practice since time immemorial and that has been passed on to the current seventh generation.
Planots is made with equal parts Grenache and Carignan, from vines over 100 years old with yields of 500 grams per plant. After a selective manual harvest and long macerations, the wine rests for 16 months in new French oak barrels.
It is the most concentrated wine of the winery, combining the low yield of the vines and a very extractive vinification.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep red color with purple edges.
On the medium(++) amazing nose delicate aromas of dark fruit like black cherries, blackberries and plums with hints of well integrated cedar, vanilla, truffle, tar and chocolate hints.
On the palate dry, full-bodied with medium acidity and medium(+) ripe tannins. Great round, complex and concentrated mouthfeel with a recall of the nose with extra flavours like liquorice, mint and graphite. Already very tasty and drinkable but will enough potential.
