Pairing Suggestions
Cave des Vignerons de Pfaffenheim - Pfaff Black Tie 2018 (86 TSW)
Weather forecast - Final sunny days in the Netherlands zo let’s enjoy this easy going Alsace blend.
A marriage of Pinot Gris and Riesling.
This well-dressed "Black Tie" bottle is an ode to fashion and fashion week that will take place in September. Virtual, or maybe even with real catwalk shows.
Founded over 60 years ago, the Cave des Vignerons de Pfaffenheim is one of the major players in the Alsatian vineyard. Today it is considered to be one of the most qualitative in Alsace. In 2017, for the 2nd time in 3 years, Pfaff was rewarded by two of the most important European competitions: Best French Wine Producer Trophy at the International Wine & Spirit Competition and Best National Producer at the AWC Vienna.
Some numbers:
- The Cave des Vignerons de Pfaffenheim produces 2,250,000 liters of A.O.C Alsace wine a year.
- Number of producers: 145
- Production area: 313 ha.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color with golden reflections.
On the medium nose aromas of pear, melon and green apple with hints of citrus, white flowers and light honey
On the palate dry with medium body and medium acidity. Flavours of pear, green apples, lychee, and a drop of honey. Good finish with a crisp mouthfeel even though the acidity is just medium and a very little (not disturbing) chalky sweetness in the end.
To pair with pork, rich fish, spicy food, vegetarian and salted meat.
