Castello di Montepò, Jacopo Biondi Santi - Toscana Rosato IGT “JeT” 2020 (89 TSW)
Summer in a bottle. A 100% Sangiovese Rosato from the Maremma region.
The estate of Castle Montepò, south of Grosseto in Maremma, on the parallel of the fortress of Telamon, is far from Montalcino.
Since 1991, Jacopo had another project in mind. Jacopo wanted to produce wines that better meet the needs of the market, without coming into conflict with the image of Brunello di Montalcino, in which his name is so closely associated.
In 1997 he bought the Castello di Montepo'. A beautiful estate in the heart of Maremma, located in a 600 hectare nature reserve, the winery Castello Montepó, named after the castle of the same name from the 12th century. At the same time, 50 hectares of purely organic vines were planted and cultivated at an altitude between 300 and 460 m a.s.l. and a south-southwest exposure.
The name of the wine JeT is based on the initials (J)acopo = father and (T)ancredi = son. It's a Rosé produced after 3 years of research in colab with the oenologist Donato Lanati.
About the wine:
Made from bunches of Sangiovese Grosso BBS11, the same strain that gives life to the famous Brunello. Harvest the first days of September then extra soft pressing. The vinification is carried out only in white at low temperature, without any contact with the skins.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a pale pink color with copper reflections.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of strawberries, raspberries and peach with hints of white flowers, spices, grapefruit and herbs.
On the palate dry, medium(+) bodied with medium(+) acidity and nice freshness. Nicely balanced and with a spicy medium(+) length finish.
10.000 bottles produced and perfect with fresh cheeses and white meats but also great with seafood.
