Castel Sallegg - Pinot Bianco 2017 (88 TSW points)
Reflections on my trip to #altoadige where we met the Castel Sallegg winemaker.
The history of Castel Sallegg is a long story that starts from 1851. In that year, Graaf van Kuenburg bought the possessions with the surrounding vineyards of Rainer Archduke of Austria, Viceroy of Lombardy and Veneto. The cellars in the castle testify that in the countryside there was also a focus for making and selling fine wines. The vines are cultivated intensively, combining traditional farming methods with modern knowledge and techniques. Between the historic walls of the castle are the wine cellars where tradition and modern technology come together.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color with green rim.
On the medium+ nose citrus, white flowers, tropical fruit with hints of melon and hazelnut.
The white wine has a medium+ intensity with good volume, roundness and medium acidity showing a recall of the nose with some extra flavours of green apple, pineapple and grapefruit on the the medium+ finish. Excellent PB.
This Pinot Bianco pairs very well with fine fish dishes, seafood, light pasta dishes with fish or cream sauces as well as vegetable dishes.
