Perricone (also known as Pignatello) is a red Italian wine grape variety that is grown in Sicily.
A little history: The country estate which today is called Terre di Giumara (Land of Giumara) started at the end of the nineteenth century by the initiative of Antonino Caruso.
These were years when the scourge of phylloxera had just been defeated and Marsala’s grape-growing activity was laboriously reviving.
In 2002 Stefano Caruso (Antonio's son) & Maro Minini started their winery in the beautiful West-Sicilian town of Marsala. Stefano and Maro selected the most beautiful grapes from the 120 hectares of vineyards that they own. The style of their Cawines is modern with an eye for tradition. This means that the wine cellar is equipped with state of the art equipment to get the best out of the grapes. The traditional element means working with typical Sicilian white and blue grape varieties such as the white Inzolia and the blue grape variety Nero D 'Avola.
Tasting notes:
In the glass a strong ruby red color with dark violet reflections.
On the nose intense aromas of dark cherries, earth, licorice, tabacco and black pepper.
On the palate dry, medium/full-bodied with blackberries, flowers, dark chocolate and earthy with hints of leather. Lovely finish.
