Caprili - Brunello di Montalcino 2013
Pairing Suggestions
Caprili - Brunello di Montalcino 2013 (92 TSW)
Caprili is located near Tavernelle within the Montalcino appellation.
The estate is extremely well located, next to Pieve Santa Restituta but also immediately adjacent to Soldera. As such, it is no surprise they are making great wine at Caprili.
The Brunello is sourced from mainly three vineyards - Ceppo Nero, Pino and Quadrucci about 335-340 meter in elevation.
The soil is a mix of sand, clay and limestone in varying amounts depending on vineyard location. Hand-harvested from vines averaging 15 years of age. Spontaneous fermentation with ambient yeast in stainless steel lasting about 25 days. Malolactic fermentation in cement. Aged three years in large, neutral Slavonian oak (30, 40 and 60HL casks) followed by one year in the bottle before release.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a medium ruby red color.
On the medium(+) aromas of dark cherries, plums and young leather with hints of cedar, earth, violets, balsamico and vanilla.
On the palate medium(++) bodied with a fine medium acidity and round tannins. Nicely balanced with vivid flavours of cherries, spices, black currants, cranberries and vanilla.
The finish has a medium(+) length finish.
