Capezzana – Trebbiano 2016 (89 tsomw points)
Wine has been produced for about 3.000 years in the Carmignano wine region. The Etruscans made all their wines in this region. This is well ahead of the Roman Empire. There are also old documents found that in 804 Capezzana had planted olive trees and vineyards for the production of olive oil and wine. In 1475 the estate became the property of Biscotti, who was closely related to the Medivci. In 1920 the widow Sara de Rothschild sold the estate to Contini Bonacossi family. They are still the owners of the wine business today.
The company currently has about 90 hectares of vineyards. The area is located just west of Firenze (Florence) - Prato. The soil composition is clay with lime and slate. The vineyards are situated East South - South / West at an altitude of around 200 meters.
The Carmignano DOC (since 1969) was the first DOC in Italy - in 1989 it became a DOCG. The wine is made from 80% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has been made according to these rules for more than 300 years. the first year that the Villa di Capezzana was made was 1925.
About this white wine:
Raised from the same grapes as the Trebbiano family (such as Trebbiano Romagnolo, Trebbiano Toscano and Trebbiano di Soave) this organic white wine from the Capezzana winery is the result of a very careful selection of Trebbiano Giallo grapes, with a late harvest of the grapes.
Malolactic fermentation in wood, and 5 months in barrique.
First give this wine some time to breath and open up.
In the glass it shows a golden yellow color.
On the nose there are complex aromas of ripe yellow apple, citrus and butter with nice hints of pine and some vanilla.
On the palate dry with round mouthfeel. Light waxy, smooth and balanced. Flavours of lemon peel, butter and some grapefruit in the persistence finish.
One of the best Trebbiano I drank till now.
Recommended with white meats and shellfish.
