Cantine Matrone - Lacryma christi Del Vesuvio Bianco 2014 (88 tsomw points)
Lacryma Christi means “The tears of Christ”
Blend of Caprettone grapes (80%), Falanghina (15%) and Greco (5%). My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep straw yellow color.
On the nose aromatic aromas of pear, peach, flowers and melon with nice hints of salinity and citrus.
On the palate medium/full-bodied with nice acidity and freshness showing flavours of peach, lemon and nice minerality. The finish is long and persistence.
In the next weeks I will write an article about the Campania wines so to get in the mood I tasted this lovely white blend from the Vesuvio region.
The Matrone family, which has always lived on this territory, since the eighteenth century is dedicated to the cultivation of vines and the production of wine.
The Caprettone variety is distributed over three vineyards located at 30/120/200 meters above sea level, while Falanghina and Greco are cultivated exclusively at 30 meters above sea level.
A part of the grapes are vinified in grapes, or different varieties fermented together, with immediate pressing and fermentation while a part of Caprettone is vinified in purity with maceration of 48 hours in the presence of soft pressing of the same with fermentation without temperature control, this method helps to obtain a wine with a more intense color and a bouquet of aromas that are more related to the varietal set of grapes and less to the fruity or floral notes due to fermentation.
Caprettone is a white Italian wine grape variety that is grown in the Campania region of southern Italy where it is a minor blending component in the Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) wine of Lacryma Christi bianco.
