Cantina Girlan - Indra Sauvignon 2018 (87 TSW)
Today it was pleasant weather in the Netherlands. The last rays of the sun combined perfectly with this Sauvignon Blanc from South Tyrol.
Cantina Girlan was founded in 1923 in an ancient farmstead from the XVI century. Back then, 23 winegrowers laid the foundation stones of what was later to become the winery we see today.
Today, about 200 greatly committed and motivated winegrowers and their families farm an area covering about 220 hectares of vineyards in the best production areas of Oltradige and Bassa Atesina. Enologist, Gerhard Kofler, is in close personal contact with the winegrowers and provides his professional advice during the growing season.
About this wine:
Grapes come from plots in the hills of Girlan with a height of 400 - 500 m and the proximity of the Alps give the Sauvignon its intense and typical character. The grapes grow on moraine soils from the Ice Age and are harvested when they are optimally ripe.
The grapes are picked by hand and delivered in small containers. After a short maceration and gentle whole grape pressing, the must is cleared of the sediment by natural sedimentation. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. The aging takes place for 6 months in stainless steel tanks without biological acid degradation on the fine yeast.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color with golden reflections.
On the medium+ nose aromas of citrus, peach and asparagus with hints of fresh cut grass, boxwood and light smoky tones.
On the palate dry, with a tight gooseberry start (medium+ acidity) and nice freshness. Flavours of green apple, fresh dough, herbs and wet stone. Medium long finish with apricot and minty hints.
To pair with pasta, shellfish, mature and hard cheese, lean fish and salted meat.
